This page provides a brief explanation of the competitions run by Taverham Bridge Club and how and where their results are show on the web site.
Event Results .
Event results in the same format that they are emailed to many members are accessible in two ways. On the current year's Program Page if you click on the Event Title the Results for that event will be displayed. On the various competition results pages, if you click the date at the head of each result column you wll also see the relevant Results Page.
Eligible Results. It is a feature of all club competitions that results are only included if all members of the playing partnership whether (2 or 4) are club members. Such results are termed 'Eligible'. Ineligible results are shown in black and are excluded from the results of the relevant competition. Ineligible results are however included in the calculation of the Handicap used to adjust the results of the Handicap Trophy. (See Handicap Trophy below).
Club Handicaps. Handicaps are calculated using the previous six month's results. Thus new members can not participate in handicapped competitions until after the first January or June of their membership, and then only if they have achieved 6 results in weeks before that date. The committee reserves the right to award adjusted handicaps in the light of higher E.B.U rankings. All scores count toward the handicap calculation. The handicap is calculated by dividing the average of the scores for the period into 50. For example if your average for the period is 55.0% your Handicap will be .91.
Printer-Friendly Web Pages . The pages as seen on the web do not print very well due to Navigation Bar on the left and the effects of the scrollbar. Printer-Friendly versions of key pages are available so that they can be printed and displayed at club meetings. To see Printer-Friendly versions click on the 'Get PF' icon on the page if available. The system for generating Printer Friendly pages is automated so do not hesitate to ask if more pages should be brought within the scope of the 'Printer Friendly' system.
Championship and Challenge Trophies..
These are individual trophies changing hands twice per year. The Championship trophy is awarded to the players with the highest aggregate 'Best 12' results' in the periods Jan - June or July to December. The Challenge cup is awarded to the players in second place in these competitions.
The Handicap Trophy.
This competition is also based on the the highest aggregate best
12 results. However each score is adjusted by the player's handicap.
The winners of the Handicap Trophy have the highest 'handicapped'

The Spring Cup.
This competition occurs on the third Monday in the month in the first half of the year. ( Click on this year's Program web page to see the dates.)
The competition is for established partnerships of 2 where both players are members. At least 4 eligible results must be achieved at Spring Cup events. If more are achieved the best 4 are selected. The results for these events are also included in the Handicap competition.
Unlike the Handicap competition where results are based on the % score the Spring Cup will be based the average of the positions achieved by the partnership. If 6 eligible placings are achieved on the nominated evenings 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 16th and 10th respectively the average of the best four is 2.5.
A Spring Cup trophy will be awarded to the winning partnership.
The results of the Spring Cup are displayed on the Spring Cup page on the club's web site. The layout of the results is similar to the Handicap results The line for each partnership will show the positions achieved each evening When 4 or more results are achieved an average score is calculated and shown.
The Spring Cup result pages pages together with the relevant weekly results are shown on the web site for two years either under This Year's or Last Year's results.
